Doors are gateways of the home and in some cases, your guests’ first impression. And having a professional finisher ensures better long-term value for your dollar spent. We are well-versed in the specialized products suited to your various projects.
In the case of refinishing your front doors or garage doors, fading and flaking of the finish are almost guaranteed when traditional products are used. Cabinet Refresh therefore carefully employs a UV stabilized / full exposure formulation which expands and contracts with the weather without cracking, making it the optimal choice for your outdoor surfaces.
If we are staining, we use General Finishes ‘Exterior’ stains and we finish with several coats of General Finishes Exterior 450 Clear Coat. For clients who wish for a stained look on their metal or fiberglass, we do a base coat of General Finishes Milk Paint, seal it and apply by hand General Finishes Exterior Stain, then finish with General Finishes Exterior 450 Clear Coat. Or for another popular look, we can simply apply General Finishes Milk Paint in the color of your choice and finish with General Finishes Exterior 450 Clear Coat in Flat.
Whatever your vision, Cabinet Refresh knows your options! Call us today for your free in-home consultation.
Residential refinishing is more than just a project. It is a relationship we take seriously.
these are either edge banded made from plywood, melamine, or MDF core, or a ‘glue up’ which is solid wood glued together normally with a stabilizer on the back, called a batten.
These are called this because it has a frame made from 4 pieces, with a middle panel.
A recessed panel door simply means the middle panel is recessed and not raised. The recessed panel can also be made in solid wood, if that is important, by making the middle panel 1/2” thick.
Raised panel just means that the middle panel is raised. This means that the middle panel is 5/8” to 3/4” thick.
This simply means that the corner of the frames are literally mitered. This is not as common now, but was very popular in the 90s and early 2000s. We often need to match a door from houses built in that period. Miter is also more expensive than butt joint, or cope and stick style.
cope and stick relates to butt jointed doors, like a Shaker style.
Cabinet doors are basically modular, made from the following ‘pieces’ of details.
As the frame has an out side edge detail, or called an OE, this will be your first choice. Most popular lately is a simple 1/16” bullnose.
or IE, is the detail of the inside of the frame, since we are seeing simpler lines, most popular at the moment is the simple square of the Shaker or a bevel which still maintains the look of a Shaker but easier to clean.
then if it is a raised panel, the panel itself will have a detail. This detail is usually simple..
another detail, for more ornate doors, is an applied molding. This detail alone can raise the price of the door by as much as 40%. It usually means there is an extra molding at the connection of the frame and inside panel.
Our most common at paint grade Maple, obviously to be painted. If you want stained, Walnut is always popular, as well as rift cut white oak. This is a timeless architectural classic. We have even used Douglas fir on some kitchens in the past couple of years.
If you are looking for wood grain and flat panel, you may want ‘book matched’, which is usually more expensive. This is where the grain flows on a group of adjacent doors and drawer fronts. This is done by mapping out the pieces from a sheet of plywood and cutting strategically, usually with a CNC machine.
Even if you are not fully ready to commit, at the moment, feel free to text or email photos of your kitchen and even some of your inspiration photos to us, to get the ball rolling. We can usually get you a budget based on that.
Don’t forget to ask about our Ten Day Kitchen renovations. This is basically refinishing or refacing, new countertops and backsplash within a 2 week period. This has become our signature service.
